Klein & Hoffman was a proud sponsor of the 14th Annual SEAOI Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) Structures Symposium. Beyond our sponsorship, we had two engaging presentations by our structural engineers featured at the event.
Terry McDonald, SE, PE and Steven Nolin, PE, presented on the condition assessment and stabilization of the historic Old Joliet Prison titled, “Shoring Up History: The Journey to Save Old Joliet Prison”. The presentation outlined the unique challenges in assessing and designing structural stabilization for the severely deteriorated Administration and Cell Block buildings.
Zelina Johnson, SE, presented on the effects of site added chlorides on the performance of a concrete high-rise structure titled, “Deflecting Disaster: Rehabilitating Chicago Skyline”. The presentation highlighted a step-by-step methodology of investigating existing structures and how to use non-destructive and destructive testing methods to assist in determining causes of distress.
