Cassatt Avenue Bridge provided vehicular and pedestrian access between the inbound and outbound platforms of SEPTA’s Berwyn Station until severe deterioration required a downgrading to pedestrian traffic only. Rather than initiating extensive repairs, SEPTA authorized replacement of the existing bridge with a new pedestrian bridge. During construction, the existing bridge was used as a shield to protect the active rail lines below. The design included new ADA accessible ramps for the station platforms.
