Originally built in 1972, this major adaptive re-use project involved the conversion of the top 10-floors of a 50-story office building into luxurious condominium units. Before work began, K&H engineers assessed the reserve capacity of the existing structure to determine the feasibility of the proposed alterations and penetrations through existing concrete shearwalls and slabs. The design included a new 10,000 square foot 49th floor slab that provided space for a new swimming pool, hot tub and landscaped outdoor terrace. Portions of the building’s facade were removed and replaced with long walls of clear glass giving residents broader views of the skyline and lakefront.
