Apparent Movement of Limestone Coping Stone at High (Center) Parapet
The significant displacement of the two (2) nine-foot-high towering parapets of the c. 1927 eight-story former Bonwitt Teller Deparment Store created a potential overhead hazard at its heavily-traveled intersection in Center City Philadelphia. K&H prepared a condition assessment of the exterior facades focused on mitigation of the hazards, developed the scope of repair work, coordinated project review by the Philadelphia Historical Commission staff, guided bidding, and performed construction administration services. Repairs included parapet wall dismantlement and reconstruction, steel angle replacement, limestone patching and repointing, and joint sealing.
