Project Challenge:
With an increase in the demand for hotel/convention facilities,
the developer for this project wanted to implement a new cost-effective
design for a facility in the Village of Lombard.
Project Solution:
As Engineer of Record, Klein and Hoffman (K&H) performed
a rigorous lateral analysis to support the implementation of
one of the tallest precast load-bearing wall buildings in the
country.
In order to maximize first floor lobby space, K&H designed
massive cast-in-place transfer girders at the second floor
to safely divert the weight of the superstructure down to
the deep foundation system.
K&H also design the long-span convention hall and served
as the engineer of record for the foundation system of the
6-level precast parking structure.
