PROJECT: Christopher Center for Library
and Information Resources
Featured New Structure Projects
Project Challenge:
Valparaiso University wanted to implement a dramatic design
for a new Center for Library and Information Resources to upgrade
their Campus facilities. The new library needed state of the
art information retrieval and open space conducive to student
comfort.
Project Solution:
Klein and Hoffman (K&H) guided the selection of structural
systems to deliver an efficient combination of structural steel,
precast concrete and masonry.
In order to maximize volume, K&H implemented compact steel
framing and precast members that helped define the architectural
space.
Careful attention to architectural details enabled K&H to
deliver structural solutions that were utilized to express the
creative architecture of this facility.
K&H crafted the unique exterior precast concrete screen
wall to represent the architect's intent of contextual bookshelves.
This project was the recipient of the "Excellence in Concrete
Construction Award" from the Indiana Ready-Mix Concrete
Association.
