Project Challenge:
In
response to the growing residential demand, the Developer wanted
to expand its services to include mid-rise and high-rise buildings.
The site for the building was to be located between two adjacent
properties and precise creativity was necessary to make this
a successful development project.
Project Solution:
After reviewing previous deep foundation systems proposed by
others, Klein and Hoffman (K&H) developed a more cost-effective
mat foundation system to support this 7-story building.
In order to prohibit lateral earth pressures on the adjacent
building foundations, K&H implemented a tension ring at
the perimeter of the mat foundation to contain the soil pressures
from this new mid-rise.
K&H worked closely with the Developer to implement a steel
girder with precast plank system which minimized construction
time on this confined site.
