Project Challenge:
The original windows in this building were thermally inefficient
and experienced substantial air and water infiltration problems.
Ongoing water infiltration penetrated adjacent concrete surfaces
causing substantial deterioration that necessitated costly repairs.
The building was faced with two substantial repair programs:
concrete rehabilitation and window replacement.
Project Solution:
Klein and Hoffman (K&H) worked with the condominium association
to develop a combined concrete and window program that would
achieve the highest quality of concrete repairs while facilitating
the installation of a dramatically different window system.
Window improvements included maximizing thermal performance
in key areas of the window assembly, changing window operation
to single hung systems to better suit the residents' needs,
and incorporation of a removable, protective slab-edge cover
to reduce future concrete maintenance costs.
K&H also developed multiple renderings of the building's
facades to allow the association to select/coordinate colors
for each component of the final product.
