he Assembly Hall at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, designed by Harrison and Abramowitz in 1959, is constructed of cast-in-place reinforced concrete with a glass curtain wall. Resembling a flying saucer, the thin, "floating" nature of its elements give it graceful, curved lines. With a dome that measures 382.5 ft. (117 m) in diameter, it is one of the most recognizable buildings on the campus. The principal campus venue for large events, its seating capacity is approximately 16,000.

As part of a recent expansion, the concrete concourses, exterior bridges and balconies that lead to the facility were rehabilitated. The issues to be addressed covered almost the full spectrum of concrete restoration.
